Don Hornsby is Appointed Manager of Steel Cord Services Operations  

August 2008

Belterra Corporation would like to announce the appointment of Don Hornsby as manager of its Steel Cord Services operations. Don brings 27 years of highly skilled   technical experience to Belterra’s existing capabilities. He has worked world wide on some of the most challenging steel cord conveyor belt installations, including the complete replacement of two causeways to mill steel cord conveyor belts, totaling 22 km at the Hadeed Steel Mill in Saudia Arabia. He was instrumental in successfully completing the replacement of one of the world’s longest steel cord pipe conveyors for AES Barber’s Point in Hawaii. In addition, Don has worked extensively in Canada’s Tar Sands region in Northern Alberta, working on some of the largest steel cord conveyor belt installations to date.
 
Joining Don is Mark Muller who will be responsible for on site installations, along with Don, Mark has managed projects in some of the most remote mine sites located  in Chile, Peru, The Philippines and Zimbabwe. Both Don and Mark will be instrumental in enhancing Belterra Corporation’s capabilities in this market sector world wide.

Organization Change

January 2008

After almost 30 years of leadership, Bert Lavoie has retired as President and CEO of Belterra, effective January 1, 2008. Most recently, Bert oversaw the transition of Belterra from a privately held Vancouver based company to a subsiduary of Marubeni the large Japan based trading company. Bert received high praise for his illustrious career at autumn industry events in Baltimore and Vancouver. Suppliers, customers and employees all expressed their appreciation.

In October 2007, Don Latham was appointed as President & CEO of Belterra. Don had spent the previous 22 years at Mississauga based Canadian Bearings Ltd. and the last four years as its President. During this tenure he had also served as President of the PTDA (Power Transmission Distributors Association). In his new role, Don will lead Belterra in its next phase of growth and expansion.
